Lead, Kindly Light

Saint John Henry Newman’s inspiring hymn of supplication and John Bacchus Dykes’ stirring tune, “Lux Benigna,” are combined in this dramatic new setting for SATB choir, solo cello, timpani, percussion, harp, and organ. Building to a powerful climax on the words, “So long thy pow’r hast blest me, sure it still will lead me on,” the work concludes peacefully, as it began, culminating in a journey from darkness into light.
